Barb and I are doing a photowalk today….and mid-sentence she stops…
"Whaaaaaaat?", she gasps
Where an old, vintage clothing store once stood….there it was…
This winsome, almost-overly-cozy bakery seemingly popped up out of nowhere. Comfy couches, an old wooden kitchen table, and the entire family running around behind the counter made it feel less like an eatery and more like your grandmother’s house.
And I’m serious…the entire family. You could see Mom doing book work on a computer in the back, the Dad bringing out a new batch, a 10 year old struggling to get her hands on the register above her……there was even a pre-pubescent boy who sputtered our order out to us from behind his braces. Ten types of precious.
This hallmark moment, though, was overshadowed by the treats.
Granted, yes…these macaroons look like an extra-terrestrial hamburger. But the taste was unreal. At first glance it would seem you’re about to bite into an extravagant Oreo cookie. It was anything but. The top/bottom layer consists of an extremely light, flaky sweet layer. And the filling…jesus. A very smooth, not-too-sweet , creamy goodness of buttercream frosting. It was almost confusing.
The above flavor was Pistachio…but that was tame compared to the rest. Hot chocolate with Coffee, Strawberry with Poppy Seeds, and Coconut with White Chocolate and Blood Orange.
Preposterous. <—– Read that with a stuffy, old woman British accent if you can.
There was probably about 15 more flavors but I was too caught up in the mmmmmmm.
So, long story short…one by one you all arrived.
Rather, this was a damn good cookie. If you’re in the greater New York area…it would behoove you to get your ass to this little French Gem.
