Nowadays, we’re faced with more than just a simple choice between white and brown when it comes to our daily bread. People are willing to pay £4 or even £5 for artisan bread from local bakeries which are producing varieties of sourdoughs, ryebreads and brioches which we’d simply never heard of ten years ago.In this hour-long episode, we’ll be looking at what kind of bread we’re eating and why, where it’s come from and who’s making it. We’ll be talking to food writer and Tiptree World Bread Award Judge, Charles Campion about how bread has changed over the last 50 years whilst Great British Bake Off Winner and Tiptree Judge Edd Kimber will be describing his perfect loaf. We also speak to Gail’s head baker Roy Levy and Great British Bake Off Judge, Paul Hollywood. Then it’s off to Cambridge to speak to food writer and owner of Fitzbillies cafe, Tim Hayward.Produced by Victoria Ferran
